Porcelain Crowns Los Angeles Dentists
You can choose to get dental crowns for both practical dental reasons and cosmetic dental reasons.
A crown covers your natural tooth completely, and is often used to add strength to a tooth which is weakened or damaged. Alternatively, crowns can be used to change the appearance of the tooth for aesthetic reasons.
Although some light tooth damage can be repaired using fillings, crowns are often a better option for people, as they offer a better level of strength and protection for the tooth.
The more fillings that you need per tooth; the less structurally sound the tooth will be.
Aesthetically, too many fillings can also look unsightly. When cavities are deep, or when the tooth is already cracked, crowns are a much more suitable option for repair and restoration.
The dentists in our office will offer a few different types of crowns.
Ceramic or Porcelain Crowns
If the problem lies with one of your incisors or your canine teeth, ceramic or porcelain crowns are normally the best choice because their color can easily be matched to the natural color of your teeth. However, porcelain crowns are not as strong as some other types. You may be offered porcelain fused to metal crowns instead, which offer greater strength, durability and a better bond to the teeth, whilst still looking perfectly natural.
True metal alloys are stronger than porcelain options. Although most people will think about a “gold tooth”, there are other metal options available, including white colored gold or silver alloys. Metal alloys are kinder to the surrounding teeth and they are fracture resistant. Metals are more likely to be used in areas where they are less likely to be seen, such as the molar teeth.
Porcelain Crowns and Your Dentist
New Image Dentist will work out which type of crowns is best for your needs. At your first visit, your existing tooth may need to be shaven down, and the dentist will then take an impression of your tooth, which will be sent off to a dental lab. The lab will create a perfect crown for you.
Your dentist in Los Angeles will give you a temporary crown to wear until your second visit. At the next appointment, the dentist will fit and adjust your crown for you, so that it looks perfect. Once in place, it will be secured down with dental cement.
Most crowns are highly durable, although they can come loose over time. Your dentist may need to rescue your crown at some point. Regular dental appointments will help you to notice any problems that you are having with your crowns.

"Today I was presented with a laser technique that would possibly save my teeth without having them pulled, so I agreed. Dr. Adams was extremely attentive, and made sure that the procedure was pain free which it was."
