Did you know that some degree of gum disease affects more than 80% of American adults, yet only 60% of those affected know that they have a gum disease, inflammation or gingivitis?

Safe and Effective Gum Tissue Restoration

Out of that huge percentage of adults with gum disease, only 3% of those who have moderate to severe gum disease will seek treatment.

The fear is what discourages most people from seeking treatment for their gum disease and gingivitis; they are afraid of the traditional scalpel surgery, but with LANAP laser treatment, they have nothing to fear.

A few of some frequently asked questions on LANAP laser treatment.

What exactly is LANAP laser treatment?

For many years, LANAP has been used in the dental community. LANAP laser treatment is a practice that is designed to treat gum disease through a minimally invasive procedure.

The laser that is used during the treatment is specifically for dentistry and is known as the PerioLase® MVP-7™. The FDA cleared the LANAP as the first and only practice for its True Regeneration (new cementum regrowth), new alveolar bone, and new periodontal ligament.

In order to achieve oral function, these three components are needed.

During the LANAP procedure, what should I expect?

new image dental assistant smilingBefore the surgery even begins, in order to determine how far has gum disease progressed, a dentist in our Los Angeles office will take X-rays and periodontal charting.

During a LANAP treatment, you will receive local anesthesia. The infection is cleared out without the use of cutting the gums with the aid of a tiny laser fiber that is about the same width as three human hairs that is placed between the gum and tooth.

Plaque and tartar are then removed from the tooth roots and the laser is used again but in a different setting. This setting enables the pocket to seal properly with the help of a firm fibrin blood clot.

During each session, one-half of the mouth will be treated. Following the procedure, the majority of patients are able to drive back home on their own.

What benefits come from the LANAP gum disease treatment?

LANAP gum disease treatments have a variety of benefits that seem more appealing than the conventional cut-and-sew procedure.

These are just a few of the many benefits that you will obtain from choosing LANAP laser treatment for your gum disease:

Less pain after the procedure; for starters, because it is a minimally invasive procedure, the discomfort that will be felt after this treatment will be minimal because the gums do not have to be cut or stitched.

Recovery time is quicker; traditional scalpel operations may require 2-4 weeks to fully recover, whereas, with LANAP, you will be up on your feet in less than 24-hours and able to perform your daily activities immediately after the treatment has concluded.

Maintain your gums intact; When scalpel surgeries are performed, the gums are cut open, causing the tissue to shrink, but since LANAP does not cut the gums, the tissue of the gums will stay undamaged.

Foreign growth materials not needed for renewal; foreign growth factors will not be used during this procedure because the PerioLase arouses the healing response time of your body.

What qualifies someone as a contender for LANAP treatment?

Anyone who is scared of undergoing the conventional scalpel treatment can opt for LANAP treatment. Usually, the perfect candidates are those who have moderate-to-severe gum disease.

Do any medications that I take must halt in order to undergo LANAP treatment?

Los Angeles dentist Dr. Marina AdamsNo. If you are taking blood thinners or aspirin regimens, you do not have to stop taking them due to the PerioLase laser wavelength’s unique properties.

Is the recovery and discomfort level better than conventional surgery?

It is definitely better. Compared to traditional scalpel surgery, LANAP will provide the following:

  • Pain decrease
  • Bleeding decrease
  • Sensitivity decrease
  • Gum loss decrease
  • Swelling decrease
  • Recovery time decrease (24 hours)
  • Infections will occur less

Can any dentist perform LANAP surgery?

Not just any dental professional can perform this procedure. Only those dentists who are trained to perform LANAP treatments. Contact our dental office in Los Angeles

LANAP dentists must have what type of training?

In the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry (IALD), hands-on, clinical, and comprehensive training must be performed over the span of a year by all dentists who are qualified to perform LANAP.

LANAP laser treatments success is ensured with the training that these dentists are provided during that period. During the course of the five-day training program, Laser BootCamp is composed of the first three days.

A LANAP Proficiency certificate is given to the dentist after the five days have concluded.

Can LANAP surgery use any type of laser?

No.
There is a laser specifically designed for this procedure: PerioLase MVP-7. No LANAP surgery can be performed if the dental office does not contain this type of laser.

Will my LANAP treatment be covered by my insurance company?

It depends on which insurance policy you have. For the majority of cases, yes, most insurance carriers cover periodontal disease treatments.

It is important that you consult with your dentist to determine whether your plan covers the LANAP treatment.

People fear what they do not know, which is why it is important to ask your dentist as many questions as possible to answer all of your concerns.

At our dental office, we pride ourselves on the time we take with each of our patients to address every concern that they have. We want our patients to feel secure and confident of the decisions that they make.
